Mendoza dipinge provocatori slogan debitamente censurati, e persone.

Ryan Mendoza 1971 in New York, lives and works between Germany and Sicily.

The American artist has been living for just over a year between Berlin and the slopes of Etna, in Dagala, where he has set up his new studio in the green surroundings of the volcano. Mendoza's research is the mirror on which the decadent image of contemporary society is reflected, in a merciless game of cross-references. The clash of opposing values is evident in his works: ambiguity, xenophobia, domination, pornography, lust, voyeurism, hatred... they are in contrast to clarity, integration, dependence, chastity, privacy, love, intimacy... without ever expressing a judgement, they pose disturbing questions about the values on which the new social ethics are based.
Mendoza paints provocative slogans, duly censored, and people. Mottos and common heroes, a distorted echo, personal dystonia that sadly reveals our weaknesses and decadence and at the same time provides us with the magic formula by which society accepts us.
His paintings reveal his great ability to link the pop and horizontal vision of American culture with the baroque stratification of European thought, creating a short circuit that stimulates critical capacity and invites us to reflect on how we appear and how we intimately are, in an ambiguous game that is as intriguing as the ironic and serious personality of the American artist.
An admirable poetics managed with snooty irreverence and cheeky irony that suggest we look beyond to reveal an individual who, while respecting public and private values, moves the limit of his own conscience further and further, in the hope of matching it with his own dreams.
